Zenshera made his fourth trip to Pau, for this year’s only CCI5* event. He did a lovely dressage test, scoring 24.8 to lie in fifth place going in to cross country.
At the end of Saturday, to quote Ros: “He was pure class today and gave me such a smooth ride around his 6th 5*. He just loves it.”
Unfortunately, Sunday proved his downfall. “Today wasn’t quite the fairy tale finish we were hoping for. Showjumping has never been Alfie’s strongest phase and despite jumping one of his smoothest rounds he had three poles down.
“I am really gutted as I adore this horse and was so proud of him for being right up there, competing with other amazing young horses. Back to work this winter to see if I can make some adjustment in my riding that might help bring out the best of him. He might be 16 but we will come out fighting again next year!”
